Energy density? Number of charge cycles? Safety issues? Sounds like great technology - it could be put to good use in Solar Towers as well - if they ever get funding to help build one here in Australia that is. I smell a good story in the solar tower story Ian - want to do a documentary?

See http://www.enviromission.com.au/ for the not funded by the federal govt solar tower :-)

I'll check the data and get back to you. From memory, the energy density was less than lead-acid batteries. Its acid based, so there are safety issues, but not explosive ones like lithium batteries.

You're right, this would be an excellent way to store excess power from solar power stations over-night, and also ferry the power over long distances.
